BioThane is a coated webbing material. It begins with a polyester or nylon core and is finished with a thermoplastic compound. The result is a material that looks and feels remarkably close to leather but performs in ways leather cannot match in the conditions where a dog actually lives.

A premium leather collar is in development at Rai Collective for different occasions and lifestyles, where the character of aged leather is the right choice. That work is ongoing and it matters to us.
But the debut collar is built for active dogs and the environments they actually live in. Salt water and rain, mud after a trail run, the weight of a working animal every single day. In those conditions, leather softens, absorbs, and eventually breaks down. That is not a failure of leather. That is what it is built for.
A precision-crafted collar for an active dog should not have to be babied. It should hold up as well in year five as it does on the first day.
